In line with the theme of “Building a Smarter Fiji”, the Government announced a number of major initiatives that now ensure that every young person has access to tertiary education. The Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Commodore Josaia Bainimarama stated in his 2014 budget address as follows:

“My Government believes that no young person should be left behind, even at the tertiary level. No student should be prevented from reaching for their dreams because they cannot afford it.

So today I announce a major tertiary initiative that will provide low-interest Government loans to any Fijian student who is accepted at one of the tertiary institutions in Fiji.

The Tertiary Education Loan Scheme (TELS) will cover up to the full cost of tuition and will not have to be repaid until after a student has graduated and received employment. Fijians from families that earn less than $25,000 a year will pay no interest on these loans.

How to Apply

The application forms will be available prior to the release of the FSFE results on 31s December 2013, and they can be collected from the Tertiary Scholorships and Loans Board Office on the 6th floor, Suvavou House, Victoria Parade, Suva (Opening Hours : 8am-1pm; 2pm-4:30pm); the Qualifying institutions listed above, or obtained from the TSLB website http://www.tslb.com.fj.

Notice for Online Applications

The TSLB office has done some changes to the Online TELS Applications which will improve security and also provide the applicants ability to track down their application status. All applicants wanting to submit applications online, will be required to register first. They will be required to provide personal information together with an e-mail address to enable the system to create an account for them, send to their e-mail their account credentials, which they will use to access the new TELS System. 

The System will also improve the following tasks which are carried out by the TSLB staff

1) Assessment and Processing of applications

2) Facilitate queries that come from applications
